General Rules of Slugging

1. Age Restrictions & Minor Policy (18+ Requirement)

To keep the platform safe, SlugHub is strictly limited to individuals 18 years of age or older. Minors are not permitted to use the app to schedule any type of commute. Drivers are encouraged to refuse transportation to any suspected unaccompanied minor(s).

2. Safety Suggestions

  • Be Observant: Do not board a vehicle if you feel unsafe or notice anything suspicious.
  • Verify Details: Confirm the destination with the driver before getting into the vehicle.
  • Say No to Money: No money should change hands. Slugging is a free service in exchange for access to the HOV lanes.

3. Driver's Right of Rider Refusal

Slugging is built on mutual trust. A driver maintains the absolute right of rider refusal. If a driver feels uncomfortable, believes a rider behaves inappropriately, or if a rider's presence poses any safety concern, the driver may refuse to transport that rider. Drivers are under no obligation to accept any rider they do not wish to carry.

4. Rider's / Slug's Right of Driver Refusal

Just as drivers may refuse riders, a rider or slug maintains the absolute right to refuse a ride from any driver. If a rider feels uncomfortable, notices anything suspicious about the vehicle or driver, senses erratic behavior, or has any safety concern whatsoever, the rider may decline to board the vehicle — no explanation required. Never feel pressured to accept a ride. Your safety always comes first.

5. Designated Pick up / Drop Off

For safety and predictability, it is recommended that you only slug in approved, designated pick-up and drop-off destinations. Standardizing locations ensures security, ease of parking, and immediate access to HOV transit lanes. If there is an absolute need to request or offer rides outside established commuter lots and designated NCR arrival points, it is recommended to only request pick up and drop off points in public and well lit places and use the Share Commute feature located in the Matches Portal of the app. The Share Commute feature allows you to send your scheduled slug commute information to a trusted contact or phone number, standard carrier text messaging rates may apply for commutes shared via text.

6. Keep it Quiet

Talking is generally discouraged, unless agreed upon and initiated by the driver. If conversation is initiated it is encouraged to avoid discussing sensitive subjects like politics or religion. Respect the driver's preferences.

Cell Phone Usage: Phone conversations and media playback are discouraged unless agreed upon by the driver. Please keep devices on silent or use headphones to maintain a quiet and respectful ride environment.

7. Cleanliness & Vehicle Etiquette

To respect the driver and fellow commuters, personal grooming, eating, and drinking are prohibited inside vehicles unless given permission by the driver. Additionally, riders should not enter a vehicle if they are significantly soiled, muddy, wet, or carrying strong/offensive odors that could damage, stain, or leave lingering smells in the driver's vehicle interior.
